Hello! Choosing a therapist can be a daunting process, and I want to acknowledge how much effort it can take to sort through the many options available. It can be so hard to decide whether someone is the “right” choice based on a few sentences and a photo. I hope the information below helps you feel more confident about whether working with me would feel like a good fit. If you’re still unsure, you’re welcome to reach out for a 15-minute consultation call, where I can answer any questions you may have.
I enjoy working with clients who feel hesitant or weary about counseling. Maybe they have had difficult experiences in the past, or find it hard or strange to trust someone with their thoughts and emotions. Many of my clients have felt that their problems are “too big” for therapy, or that they don’t have any “real” problems and should simply learn to live with their discomfort. I work to help clients build trust within the therapeutic process and reconnect with the belief that they can feel better.
My approach to counseling is grounded in harm reduction and a non-pathologizing, destigmatizing framework. This means that we won't be focused on labels, disorders, or society's moral judgements of what "health" should look like. Instead, we will be exploring what you are currently experiencing, how you would like it to change, and we will be focused on progress, not perfection.
In our work together, you are the expert in your own experiences, and my role is to support you in working toward your goals. Our work together will be collaborative and engaging, with room for honest exploration and thoughtful challenge in support of meaningful change. I will be centering your humanity and will approach our work with the understanding that autonomy and self-determination are essential to feeling safe and being able to thrive.
