"Trauma" is anything that overwhelms a person's ability to cope in that moment. Often people say "It could have been so much worse" or "It wasn't that bad compared to ..." or "I should have gotten over it". We are here to tell you that your feelings are valid and your experience is not to be compared to anyone else's. Whether your traumatic experience happened 6 months ago or 20 years ago, you may still be suffering. This may look like frequent nightmares, flashbacks, negative beliefs about yourself or about the world, depressed mood, anxiety, unhealthy coping mechanisms, guilt, shame, and other unwanted symptoms.
We will work with you, at your pace, to understand your trauma, identify your trauma responses, validate the impact your experience has on your life, explore what freedom from trauma can look like for you, and work together to get there.
EMDR stands for "eye movement desensitization and reprocessing" and is a highly researched treatment for trauma and adverse life experiences. In addition to being incredibly successful in treating trauma, it is also extremely effective in treating depression, anxiety, addiction, phobias, and many other conditions.
We all have core beliefs about ourselves and about the world that we establish through our life experiences. Some of these core beliefs are harmful and interfere with our lives. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to reprocess the experiences connected to these harmful beliefs and store them with a more adaptive belief that no longer interferes with our life. We have seen EMDR change many lives and believe it can change your life too.
Restricting, excessive exercise, binge eating, purging, body checking, counting calories, dieting, labeling foods as "good and bad", and fear of gaining weight are just some of the things you may experience if you suffer from an eating disorder or disordered eating.
We approach eating disorders and disordered eating from a Health at Every Size (HAES) and anti-diet perspective. Together we will work to ensure you (and your support network) are educated and well-supported by a clinical team (including your doctor and dietitian). We will work to eliminate current harmful behaviors and increase healthy outlets and distress management skills, and we will uncover and heal the core of the issue.
You deserve to be free and have a healthy relationship with food, your body and exercise.
“Personal Identity” holds different meaning for each individual and the experience that comes with self-discovery can be overwhelming for many. When someone wishes to live an authentic life different from the expectations put upon us by society, family, or friends it can sometimes feel isolating. Those who are unable to live authentically often describe suffering from feelings of shame, guilt, fear, feeling of being an imposter, anxiety, and depression.
An LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapist can support you as you explore yourself, relationships, marriage, communication, and as you reflect and create goals to help you live a more satisfying life.
We are here to offer you a safe, judgement free zone to discover who you are and what you need.
Anxiety comes in all shapes and sizes. It might feel like - your hands sweating and not knowing exactly why, an elevated heartbeat when you enter a room of people, loss of vision that you experience every time you hear a certain noise, and many things in between.
No matter what anxiety looks like for you, we can work together to identify where it comes from and how you can reduce it.
Depression can feel insurmountable. It can also feel like a dark fog surrounding you as you push through your normal life. It’s different for everyone, but the common thread is that it inhibits your ability to enjoy life as you’d like.
If you’ve been suffering for days or years, there is always time and space to start to work through what is weighing you down. We will work together, at a pace that feels right for you, focusing first on small things that can help restore energy while also making space to examine what is at the core of these feelings.
Sometimes it can be incredibly challenging to know how to best support your child. Whether your child is struggling with school, relationships, anxiety, family conflict, anxiety, trauma, or other concerns we are here to support you.
We are here to provide a welcoming, child-friendly environment for your child to allow them to be themselves and express themselves through play, creativity, and fun.
We will foster a non-judgmental, collaborative relationship with you, the parent or caregiver, and support you in finding your own strength and confidence to support your child.
Being a teen or pre-teen is hard and it can also be challenging to be the parent of a child who is struggling to cope. It can make both of you feel helpless. Adolescents are entering a phase of their lives where many things are changing for them – they are being exposed to new experiences and people, and there are new expectations being placed on them. These factors can be challenging for anyone and especially so for teens and pre-teens who are experiencing new and heightened emotions while also learning how to cope with and process these emotions along with all the newness surrounding them. Some common reasons teens and pre-teens may begin therapy are depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse issues, behavior problems at school and/or home, and low self-esteem.
We are here to work with teens and pre-teens who need help coping with the difficulties they are facing whether these problems stem from past or current events. We know some adolescents may be hesitant to attend therapy, so our goal is to meet them where they’re at and to come into every session with patience, flexibility, compassion, and a creative approach to help them move through the discomfort and toward a healthier mind.
